Requirements Virtual

  • VMware vSphere (ESX)
  • VMware Server (from v. 2.0)
  • VMware Workstation (from 5.x) (which is currently called VMware Workstation Pro)
  • CITRIX XEN Server (from Version 6.5)
  • Hyper-V (from Windows 2008R2)
  • KVM / Proxmox (Hard Disk with SCSI as Bus/Device and VirtIO SCSI as SCSI Controller)
  • Virtual Box
  • Microsoft Azure (requires the appliance to be installed on local hyper-v and then uploaded to your azure cloud, marketplace is not yet supported, but work is in progress)

The following table includes a list of recommended RAM depending on the amount of users.

Amount of Users Recommended RAM *
50 2 GB / 2048 MB
100 3 GB / 3072 MB
250 4 GB / 4096 MB
500 5 GB / 5120 MB
750 6 GB / 6144 MB
1000 7 GB / 7168 MB
1500 8 GB / 8192 MB
2500 10 GB / 10240 MB
5000 12 GB / 12288 MB
7500 16 GB / 16384 MB
15000 24 GB / 24576 MB

* The specified memory is the minimum requirement for installing the appliance.
Depending on the volume of mail and the modules used, it may be advisable to increase the RAM accordingly.
This is recommended, for example, if the REDDOXX Appliance has to process a large number of very large emails in a short period of time, check them for spam and then archive them.
The ClamAV virus scanner as part of the spam finder requires 4 GB of RAM, especially during pattern updates.
The MailDepot service can also require up to 4 GB of memory during archiving / indexing / archive tasks and searches.
In cases where the MailDepot service is busy and the ClamAV virus scanner is performing a pattern update at the same time, an additional 8 GB may be required in addition to the minimum requirements.
8 GB may become necessary.
The recommendation is therefore 4 GB minimum for the appliance (in the mail flow, with MailSealer) as well as an additional 4 GB for MailDepot and another 4 GB if ClamAV is used in Spamfinder.

Following prerequisites need to be observed prior to the implementation of a new virtual appliance.
In case that the virtual appliance is setup as a secondary node in a cluster, you should read the cluster documentation first.
The documentation can be found here: Cluster Requirements.
